I'm guessing you started your business to make an impact in people's lives. At the time you probably weren't thinking about creating systems, right? Maybe you still aren't thinking about creating systems. Well, what if I told you systems will help you better serve your clients, and take care of yourself and your own wellness in the process?
Setting up an optimized system for your business can feel like a challenge, but it can actually be really simple and impactful to do.
It is well worth the time investment because it ultimately saves you loads of time, makes things much easier for you and your team, and most importantly, gives your clients a better and more consistent experience. And happy customers is what it's all about (plus the referrals they provide is a phenomenal way to grow your business).
Where to Start When Creating Systems
Keep things lean and start simple. Focus on the things you do repeatedly and most often, and start with developing systems for those that are customer facing. Then incrementally start to systemitize your back-of-the-house activities, because the behind the scenes activities are usually the ones that you can automate or eventually delegate.
I shared an example in a recent podcast interview with Cate Stillman, Setting Up Your Lean System for Wellness Pros, about how I systemitized the process of being interviewed on podcasts.
At 8:40 in the interview, I shared how once I started doing a lot of podcast interviews, I created a simple system that allowed me to track my process end-to-end ensuring that I consistently show up and deliver the best possible interview and that the podcast host and their listeners get the best possible experience. It includes all the steps from securing the interview and confirming a date and discussion topics, to all of the post interview promotion and relationship management.
Systems Create a Better Customer Experience
In my podcast interview with Cate at 10:53, I talk about why creating optimized systems actually creates a better experience for your clients. I give you tons of insight to how you can really do less to achieve more, and how you can develop habits for success in your business. We don't all start out as a systems thinker, so you'll want to listen to learn how this way of thinking can be developed over time.
